The ESR will be responsible of the synthesis of novel nanomaterial, coupling the nanomaterial to signal transducer (either electrochemical or optical), immobilization of biomolecules. Afterwards ESR will be involved in the development of a dedicated platform to couple the sensing system to cell culture (either microfluidic or static devices). Finally the different devices will be applied to cell lines to study the antioxidant (or by any other pathway) protection action of food components towards oxidative stressors.

Internal tutor

  • To develop novel nano-biosensors that are able to detect:

          1)Possible exposure to chemical environmental stressors

          2)Functional food effect on such stressors in living organism

          3)The level of oxidative stress in living organism upon diet supplementation.


  • To realize computational model with predictive capabilities for each nano-biosensors.
  • To develop an integrated lab-on-chip device which will be designed as doctor office device (UAH, MicruX).
  • To couple the developed technology to cell based assay in collaboration with ESR 3, ESR 11, and ESR12 to achieve a versatile high-tech platform to asses environmental stressor activity and functional food protection effects on spermatozoa homeostasis and cancer cell-lines evolution


  • Present the results at least into two international meetings.
  • Transfer the scientific results by publishing a PhD Thesis and at least 2 international publication in Open Access format in journals included in JCR (IF>2)
and two short communications.
  • Publish at least two papers in Journal(s) ranked as Q1 by Thomson Reuters.
  • Acquire 30 ECTS.
  • Contribute at the REP-EAT dissemination activities.

D: Why and what do you like about Teramo?
R: What I like the most about Teramo it's its location is near to the sea and the mountains. This make it very appealing for practicing different winter and summer sports which is very important for me since I love sports.
D: What is your favourite food local dish/food?
R: Without a doubt my favourite dish is arrosticini. However, all the local dishes I've tasted are quite good such as formaggio fritto or le virtù
